Past Experience and Formation
Toni Garbini is a theatre director, playwright, and multimedia artist whose practice explores the intersections of text, performance, and digital media. A graduate in Theatre History from the University of Parma, he has been active since 1998 as a writer, director, and educator, developing a body of work centred on text-based performance and interdisciplinary creation, through Teatro Ocra, among others. His research engages with memory, rural culture, and the role of technology in contemporary theatre, combining dramaturgy with video documentation and digital cinema.

He is the artistic director of the Smaschera Festival, through which he has fostered international collaborations and experimental approaches to performance. His work has been presented in diverse cultural contexts, including the staging of his adaptation of Euripides’ The Bacchae (2021) at the Greek Theatre of Syracuse, directed by Carlus Padrissa with the company La Fura dels Baus.
Alongside his artistic practice, he is actively involved in theatre education and collaborative projects with international artists and institutions contributing to the development of interdisciplinary and cross-cultural performance methodologies.
